Editor's Letter: Bright Ideas

“If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” We’re sure you’ve heard the saying. But not so fast—we’re challenging that old idiom with our kitchen and bath issue. These days the kitchen is designed to be the coolest room in the house. But if yours isn’t worthy of all the time you spend in it, change it up! Starting on page 46, our kitchen and bath clip file is fully loaded with imagery and tips. It’s more than enough to get you started on a design for a killer kitchen or spa-like bathroom retreat. Want more? Check out our kitchen and bath stories, starting on page 26, too.

And, even though everyone tends to congregate in the kitchen, there are those times you would rather not have the kids underfoot. Chic bedrooms for small people are on the rise. Gone are the ill-conceived, makeshift rooms many of us grew up with. We’ve put together oodles of dreamy bedrooms that will make even the most finicky child squeal with delight. Kid’s rooms are a decorating opportunity: anything goes, and the best thing is, they don’t have to “go” with the rest of your décor. Here’s your chance to be just like a kid in a candy store—go for it!

Speaking of going for it, this year’s athome A-list Awards is shaping up to be the biggest and best we’ve had. More people got in the game than ever before, and the judges definitely have their work cut out for them! The awards ceremony on Sept 13th at the Palace Theater in Stamford will be the place to see and be seen, so reserve your tickets now on our website, athomefc.com, and gear up to celebrate with us and our fabulous judges! Mark your calendar and we’ll see you in September.

Keep cool and happy summer, all!
