My earliest memory of rugs, goes back to when I used to drive my toy car, on our rugs wide borders, pretending it, to be a speed lane. My family had been in the business of fine rugs for many years ago, but as a teenager, growing up in Tehran, I never thought that will become the focus of my business life.
I started out as a rug washer in my cousin's ORIENTAL RUG STORE, in Millburn, New Jersey. I used to spend lots of time in the store, even after my job was done. My ability to speak English comfortably allowed to me to serve customers, and soon after, my cousin promoted me to sales.
After the Iranian Revolution, my family joined me here, and we opened our first rug store in Stamford, Connecticut.
So you could say that I started in this business thirty years ago, from the bottom up!
I have always been fascinated by old handmade rugs, specially the geometric Village rugs, and when I opened Fovama, I focused on selling unique old rugs.
